Wednesday, May 11th, 2011Ki2 Tallboy First Ride Review
Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011Electronic shifting for a mountain bike? Seriously? How much better could this really be compared to the ‘old school’ method of moving a lever with my thumb? I mean, we’ve been riding with this old technology for years, and it works.
Turns out, the Ki2 electronic shifting is MUCH better. In fact, I don’t know if I could ride a bike with ‘regular’ shifting again…
After shifting from the inner ring to the outer ring a dozen times (that front derailleur makes the coolest noise), I headed out on my ride with the goal of riding how I would normally ride, trying not to focus too much on the cool factor of electronic shifting.
Precise Shifting
One of the first things you’ll notice with Ki2 is how precise the shifting is. After the initial setup, shifting has been flawless (I’ve ridden it three times at the time of writing this).
This is pretty remarkable, considering the trails have been a little on the damp side (don’t worry, we weren’t eco-blasting). Even with a gritty drive train, the shifts clicked off smoothly and accurately. Impressive.
Shifting from the inner ring to the outer ring is a joy. It is by far the BEST front ring shifting I’ve ever experienced. Period.
The self trimming action of the front derailleur is something sounding like not a big deal, unless you experience it. I’ve never had a quieter sounding or smoother running drive train.
Shifting is effortless, quick and precise. What more could you ask for?
Conclusion
Sure it’s expensive, but if you’re after the ultimate in performance, then look no further.
Ki2 performs flawlessly and feels so integrated that you’d swear Shimano made it.
Ki2 Santa Cruz Tallboy
Sunday, March 20th, 2011We just finished building Matt’s (our web designer and fearless test pilot) Santa Cruz Tallboy with a custom blue Ki2 kit. As expected, shifts like a dream. Note the latest refinement to the shift pod placement; slightly further under the bars and 10degree angle toward the hand. We still need to do some dialing in on the wiring, but for a completely external routing, looks very clean.
We’re taking the Ki2 Niner and the Ki2 Santa Cruz out on the trails today. Check back for a report of our first ride on the Tallboy.

Ki2 – Electronic shifting for Mountain Bikes
Friday, March 11th, 2011Check out the press we’ve been receiving on our latest K-Edge venture, the Ki2 Mountain Bike Group. As one of our newest customers said, “I don’t care what it costs, I’m ready for your Di2 Mountain Bike kit, I don’t even care if its “proto” and looks unfinished, HOOK IT UP!!!”
Not to worry though, we’re not going to be shipping unfinished prototypes. This is the real deal – real engineering, real machining, and real fun to ride.
We’ll have more details on our website and facebook page next week.

Mark Cavendish’s HTC Columbia Scott Project F01
“The build kit is little changed from star sprinter’s previous Addict with a Shimano Dura-Ace mechanical group and pedals, SRM-equipped crankset, fi’zi:k Arione CX Carbon Braided saddle, Elite cages, and AceCo’s increasingly popular K-Edge chain watcher – the latter even custom etched just for Cavendish.”
